Earlier this week, I had the chance to go to the City of Lost Souls launch party on Tuesday. Finally living in Chicago pays off! It was a great event that I’m glad I went to.
The party started with a showing of the trailer. Somebody gasped when they showed Jonathan/Sebastian, which made everyone giggle. Then, the actor who portrays Jace in the trailer and on the book cover came out to introduce Cassie. I felt bad because no one called him by his real name, which is Judson Birza.
Cassie was awesome. She asked some trivia questions and gave out prizes. One of the answers was the writing on the wall: “mene mene tekel upharsin,” and everybody was surprised someone got that. I’m still mad I didn’t answer what Jace and Will were most afraid of: ducks, obviously! Then she answered questions and shared stories. Some of the topics discussed were:
— The incest storyline, which she got from watching a documentary.
–Cannibal ducks: a hilarious story with her and Sarah Rees Brennan feeding duck pie to ducks and the ducks proceeding to chase after them. Thus, “never trust a duck” was born.
–The inspiration for Magnus: Cassie’s glittery friend John.
— Will or Jem? Neither, she’d run off with Magnus.
There were lots of others that I just can’t remember now, sorry. After the Q&A, it was time for the book signing to start. You could also take a picture with “Jace” or get painted on runes while the book signing was going on. I did get a picture with Judson , but it’s a really bad one so I’m not gonna post it here.
It took awhile for me to finally get my books signed ( I was #287 in line), but it did happen. They were taking a poll of people’s favorite characters at the front of the line, so I said Will. After that, it was about 10:30 at night, and I was ready to go home. But all that waiting was worth it:
They were also handing out postcards with the family rings on them, which is what you see pictured. Since then, I have memorized what each family ring looks like (What can I say, I’ve got too much time on my hands).
My signed copy!
Overall, I had a great time. I can’t wait to read what happens in City of Lost Souls!
